Grand Theft Auto VI Trailer 1 went out around 5 December 2023. Rockstar’s Newswire title was “Watch Trailer 1 Now.” The official video page on rockstargames.com/VI lists the runtime as 1:31. YouTube ID from that era’s public posting: QdBZY2fkU-0. The end card said Coming 2025 on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. That year is dead. The live date is 19 November 2026.
This page is a text breakdown of the first official film. It is not a stills gallery. Trailer 2 (6 May 2025, 2:47) is the plot-paragraph video that named Jason and Lucia in lockstep with the site. An Extended Look (27 August 2026) is the 26-minute in-game PS5 film. Trailer 1 is the tone piece. People still search it because it is the first time a mass audience saw the game, and because old embeds still say 2025.
What Rockstar put in writing around it
The Newswire and the product page, then and in the copy that survived, established:
- The next numbered Grand Theft Auto.
- A return to modern-day Vice City inside the state of Leonida — the “modern-day” wording is later explicit in the 6 November 2025 Newswire; Trailer 1 is the footage that made the return visible.
- Dual-protagonist footage. Surnames and the full bios landed later on Only in Leonida.
- Hardware: PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. No PC. No last-gen.
- The slogan reused ever since: “the biggest, most immersive evolution of the Grand Theft Auto series yet.”
What Rockstar did not put in writing around Trailer 1: a calendar day, a price, editions, a wanted-system manual, a map-size number, or the plot paragraph that now opens the site.
That paragraph — “Vice City, USA. Jason and Lucia have always known the deck is stacked against them…” — is Trailer 2-era site copy. Do not back-date it onto the 2023 video as if the first trailer had a narrator.
What the film is for
Ninety-one seconds. Neon, weather, phones, wildlife, police, a woman in a prison-orange beat the later bios attach to Lucia Caminos, a man the later bios attach to Jason Duval. In December 2023 those people were not yet named on the site the way they are now. The video had to sell a feeling: this is GTA, this is Florida-shaped, this is now, this is a couple.
It worked as advertising. It froze as a calendar. Trailers do not patch. Search results still serve “GTA 6 2025” because Google does not retire an end card.
If you are watching Trailer 1 in September 2026 to learn the ship date, you are watching the wrong object. Watch the product page. If you are watching it to remember the first images, it is still the first images.
What a 1:31 montage can legally show
Without turning into a manual, Trailer 1 is allowed to show:
- Vice City as a neon-soaked, phone-saturated, storm-lit American city, not a 1986 period piece. The 2002 game with the same city name is a separate comparison.
- Dual leads sharing space and trouble. That is the series hook. It is not yet a control-scheme document.
- Water, highways, interiors, crowds, animals. A Florida satire needs all of those. A shot of an alligator is not a hunting skill tree.
- Police, guns, cars, the usual GTA grammar, updated.
A montage cannot legally confirm, from a pause-frame:
- A wanted-star cap. Six-star reads belong to Extended Look coverage, and even there they are footage, not a Support article.
- District names. Only in Leonida later named six destinations. Trailer 1 does not stamp Grassrivers or Port Gellhorn on title cards in the Newswire.
- A soundtrack list for the game. Songs in a trailer are licensed for a trailer.
- PC. The end card names two consoles. See GTA 6 on PC.
- A GTA VI Online mode. Trailer 1 never claimed one. The 24 June 2026 Newswire later called the SKU a single-player experience. See Online.
Names that arrived later
Trailer 1 showed two leads. Trailer 2 and Only in Leonida named them and wrote bios. Supporting people — Cal, Boobie, Dre'Quan, Real Dimez, Raul, Brian — are a 2025–2026 website, not a 2023 caption track. Supporting characters.
Voice-actor names circulating online are unofficial. Dan Houser left Rockstar in 2020 and told IGN in 2025 he did not write this game.
The date trail this video started
| Public window | How it relates to Trailer 1 |
|---|---|
| Coming 2025 (end card, Dec 2023) | The line on this film |
| Fall 2025 (Take-Two investor materials, 2024) | Tightened year, still not a day |
| 26 May 2026 (Newswire, 2 May 2025) | First calendar day; Trailer 2 four days later |
| 19 November 2026 (Newswire, 6 Nov 2025) | Current. Extra months “to finish the game with the level of polish you have come to expect and deserve” |
The delay history in full: delays timeline. Trailer 1 is exhibit A in why the query “GTA 6 release date” never cools. People re-check whether the first promise moved again.
Fan breakdowns, which Rockstar did not write down
After December 2023, YouTube filled with “every detail in Trailer 1” videos. Some details were real objects in a shot. Some were GTA V systems projected onto a new city. As of 1 September 2026, still unconfirmed from Trailer 1 alone:
- Exact wanted rules, clothing-as-ID, six stars (later discussed around the Extended Look — still not a Support spec).
- Map-size ratios. “2× Los Santos” circulated years later as journalist-attributed comments, not as Trailer 1 math. See the map.
- Co-op. PlayStation’s current product page lists 1 player. See co-op.
- A full radio-wheel tracklist.
The 2022 development leak is not a decoder ring for Trailer 1. Unauthorized development footage is not a source on this site.
How to watch it in September 2026
Watch Rockstar’s upload. Ignore the end card. The date is 19 November 2026 on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. If a recap thumbnail still says 2025, the recap is stale.
Trailer 1 is the right video if you want the first public images and the dual-lead pitch before the names. It is the wrong video if you want systems (Extended Look, still a montage), plot copy (Trailer 2), or a store SKU (pre-order / editions).

FAQ
When did Trailer 1 come out?
Newswire window 4–5 December 2023. Runtime 1:31 on the official video page.
Does Trailer 1 still show the correct release date?
No. “Coming 2025” was superseded twice. Current date: 19 November 2026.
Were Jason and Lucia named in Trailer 1?
Not the way they are now. The film showed dual leads. Trailer 2 and Only in Leonida locked the names and bios.
Is Trailer 1 gameplay?
It is a cinematic trailer. Rockstar later said An Extended Look was captured entirely from in-game footage on PlayStation 5. Trailer 1 did not carry that sentence.
Does Trailer 1 confirm PC or Online?
No.
What we still don't know
- How much of Trailer 1’s story shape survives contact with the November campaign. Trailers compress and rearrange.
- Whether every face in the 91 seconds is one of the later named Only in Leonida people.
- Soundtrack as a licensed list for the game, not the trailer.
- Whether Rockstar will ship a fourth official video before launch. Nothing is scheduled on the Newswire as of 1 September 2026.
Last checked 1 September 2026 against the Trailer 1 Newswire, rockstargames.com/VI (runtime 1:31, YouTube QdBZY2fkU-0), the 6 November 2025 date-move post, and Only in Leonida bios. Fan pause-frame encyclopedias remain unofficial.
