Poster illustration for GTA 6 Online is not announced

Pre-release. Based on official materials from Rockstar Games (trailers and rockstargames.com/VI). This page will be updated after Grand Theft Auto VI launches on November 19, 2026. Anything not named by Rockstar is either omitted or marked as unverified.

Grand Theft Auto VI is sold as a single-player experience. Rockstar wrote that sentence in the 24 June 2026 Newswire that opened pre-orders. There is no GTA VI Online product page, no GTA VI Online trailer, and no Take-Two lineup slot for a successor to GTA Online. The free month of GTA+ bundled with digital pre-orders is for the existing GTA Online on current-gen Grand Theft Auto V.

If you searched “GTA 6 Online” hoping for a mode list, that is the whole official answer. The rest of this page is what people mix into that answer, and why most of it is not a Rockstar announcement.

The campaign still launches 19 November 2026 on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S.

The sentence on the box, more or less

From Rockstar Newswire, 24 June 2026:

Grand Theft Auto VI is a single player experience, coming November 19 to PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.

Take-Two’s matching press release describes the same SKU. Ultimate Edition is framed as extras “threaded across all aspects of Jason and Lucia’s story” — story, not a session browser.

That wording is a product classification, not a vow that Rockstar will never ship a VI multiplayer mode. Companies add online later. They also sometimes do not, on day one. The only honest present tense is: the thing you can pre-order is single-player.

The GTA+ month that keeps getting misread

Digital pre-orders include one month of GTA+. Physical code-in-box copies, per Support, do not list that month.

GTA+ is Rockstar’s membership for today’s GTA Online and the GTA+ Games Library. It exists on Grand Theft Auto V. Redeeming it does not unlock a hidden VI server. It does not prove VI Online is “in the files.” It is a marketing add-on attached to a pre-order of a different game, the same way a new console bundle sometimes throws in a month of a service you already know.

If a streamer holds up the GTA+ line and says “see, Online is confirmed,” they are collapsing two products into one logo.

What Take-Two has said about the current GTA Online

Strauss Zelnick has said Take-Two expects to keep supporting current GTA Online. That is a statement about the live service that already prints money. It is the opposite of “we are switching it off on 19 November.” It is also not “VI Online ships in the same quarter.”

Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier has reported that Rockstar is not planning to talk soon about a successor. That is reporting, from a journalist with a record on this company. It is not a Newswire post. It is also not a denial that a successor exists in a studio somewhere. It is a statement about communications timing.

Put those two together and the boring picture is: GTA Online (the V one) stays on; a VI successor, if it exists, is not part of the launch press. Exciting YouTube titles do not like boring pictures.

What is rumor, labelled as rumor

“GTA Online 2 at launch.” Unconfirmed. Contradicted by the single-player classification of the SKU.

“Invite-only VI Online in 2027.” Unconfirmed. A date with no product.

“The map is built for Online first.” Unconfirmed. Leonida is named as the setting of Jason and Lucia’s story. Map-as-service is how V’s Los Santos is used now. Projecting that onto VI is habit, not evidence.

Property empires, nightclubs, auto shops as VI businesses. Those are GTA Online product lines. Rockstar has not listed them as VI features. Ultimate Edition’s named stores and mod shops (Rideout Customs, Stock 305, PTT Youngin$ Compound, and the rest) are single-player extras on a Support list. They are not an Online catalogue.

Cross-play, photo mode posting to real Instagram, 120-player sessions. Fan extrapolation. Not on Support.

The 2022 development leak and August 2026 leak clips as Online evidence. Unauthorized. Rockstar has publicly called recent leaks heartbreaking and said spoilers may affect the intended experience. We do not mine leaked menus for a mode Rockstar will not discuss.

Not confirmed (6–10 September 2026). Rockstar has still not announced an online mode for VI. On 6 September 2026, Forbes contributor Paul Tassi speculated it is “a year or two out, at least,” as reported by GameRant. Reports citing tribunal filings mention a 32-player test, as covered by GTA BOOM — that is court-filing reporting, not a Rockstar announcement.

What Rob Nelson’s interviews do not settle

Nelson’s August 2026 remarks (Dazed; Kinda Funny Games as reported 29–30 August) were about the single-player: couple-or-solo play, phones, food and sleep showing on the body. GameRant reported he said the single-player would not have microtransactions. Kinda Funny coverage reported he said “No” on generative AI.

Those quotes, if you take the reporting as accurate, describe the campaign. They do not describe a live service that has not been announced. “No microtransactions in single-player” is not “no shark cards ever again in any GTA product.” Cite it as an interview report, not as store-page policy, and do not reverse-engineer Online from it.

Why the query is this large

GTA Online is the reason a 2013 game still has a patch notes column. Search interest for “GTA 6 Online” is people asking whether they should keep their V shark-card muscle, whether their friends should buy a second console, and whether the November SKU is a complete product.

It is a complete product as sold: Jason and Lucia’s story, Leonida, PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, $79.99 / $99.99. Whether that is the product you wanted is a taste question. It is not a hidden checkbox.

If Rockstar does announce a successor, it will not be subtle. Trailer 1 was not subtle. The pre-order Newswire was not subtle. Until that post exists, pages that write “GTA 6 Online modes, heists, and businesses” as a guide are writing GTA V strategy SEO on a VI URL.

Practical version for people who still play V: what happens to GTA Online after GTA 6. Two-player campaign: co-op. Cross-play is not listed either.
