An Extended Look is Rockstar’s third official Grand Theft Auto VI video. It premiered on Netflix at 3 p.m. ET on 27 August 2026, then on Rockstar’s YouTube (tJbzMqJGH4k) and rockstargames.com/VI at 9 p.m. ET. Rockstar’s own sentence, repeated on the dedicated An Extended Look page and the 27 August Newswire, is that it was captured entirely from in-game footage on PlayStation 5. Netflix and the press reported the runtime as about 26 minutes. There is no developer voiceover. On 1 September 2026, Geoff Keighley reported 31.1 million views in four days and a week at No. 1 on Netflix.

This page is a text record of that film and of the interviews that landed in the same week. It is not a screenshot gallery. Trailer 1 (1:31) and Trailer 2 (2:47) remain the shorter official ads; their runtimes are printed on the same official video page. The game those videos sell still launches 19 November 2026 on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S.

What Rockstar put in writing

The official copy is short. The Extended Look “showcases the biggest, most immersive evolution of the series yet.” That slogan has been on Trailer 1, on the November 2025 date-move Newswire, and on this film. It is a marketing line, not a measurement.

Rockstar did not publish a feature list, a HUD legend, a wanted-system manual, or a map-size number to go with the video. If a claim below is not in a Newswire sentence, it is either an on-the-record interview or outlet reporting on footage, and it is labelled.

Variety reported a Rockstar clarification on the day: livestreaming the film from 3 p.m. ET was allowed. That is a distribution note. It is not a gameplay spec.

The dedicated video page also restates the Sony tagline “Plays Best On PS5.” Capture hardware is PlayStation 5, not “PS5 Pro only,” and not a published Xbox comparison. See PS5 Pro.

What the film is, structurally

It is a montage. Story shapes, open-world wandering, chases, clubs, water, interiors, and HUD flashes are cut together without a presenter explaining the rules. A cut from Jason to Lucia is not, by itself, a control-scheme document. A six-star icon in a corner is not a full wanted-system patch note.

That matters because most “everything confirmed in the Extended Look” roundups mix three layers:

  1. Visible in the film (a HUD, a vehicle, a place type).
  2. Explained in interviews the same week (Rob Nelson to Dazed; IGN’s Rockstar North visit).
  3. Inferred by a writer from a pause-frame.

Only (1) and (2) belong in a sourcing column. (3) belongs in a rumor column even when it will later turn out to be right.

Footage outlets agreed they saw

The following is what multiple outlets (IGN’s 99-details piece, Eurogamer, The Verge, Engadget) reported as on screen, not as a Rockstar sentence. Treat it as reporting on a montage.

Dual protagonists in the same jobs. Jason Duval and Lucia Caminos appear together in scores and in downtime. Engadget and others described a chase in which Jason fires from a vehicle while Lucia drives, then a swap of perspective. IGN, after a separate studio visit, wrote that you can switch between them “at any time,” or have one tag along, or play as one. That last formulation is IGN’s report of a preview, not a Support article.

A wanted HUD that shows six stars. Grand Theft Auto V capped wanted at five. Prior 3D games often used six. Outlets reading the Extended Look said six stars are back in the corner of chase shots. IGN also described extra symbols under the stars: how much the police know (CCTV, clothes, couple, vehicle, weapon), stars shifting white/red, and “hollow” stars when police know a crime happened but lack a description. That HUD reading is IGN’s, from the film and from the North visit. Rockstar has not published a wanted manual.

Activities in the montage. Kayaking, fan boats, jet skis, scuba, fishing, gym/weightlifting, basketball, dirt bikes, street and track racing, base jumping / parachuting, bars and clubs, target practice. Eurogamer added Lime-style scooters and a “hot-wheel” item wheel. Engadget mentioned backyard wrestling moves. These are activities shown. They are not a completeness list, and they are not proof that each one is a named minigame with a leaderboard.

Everyday interiors. Kotaku and others dwelt on fridge and apartment detail. That is world-building in a film. It is not a systems spec.

Social-media satire and phones. Consistent with Trailer 1 and Trailer 2. Nelson’s Dazed interview (see below) is the on-the-record version: Lucia can sit in the passenger seat and use the in-game phone on the way to a job.

What the film does not show: a PC logo, a GTA VI Online logo, a file size, a frame-rate overlay with an official target, or a narrator saying “the map is N square miles.”

Interviews in the same window, which are not the film

Art director / co-studio head Rob Nelson spoke to Dazed (Autumn 2026 issue, online ahead of the 10 September magazine date) and, separately, sat with IGN at Rockstar North. Those are interviews. They are citable with attribution. They are still not a store-page control scheme.

From Dazed, on the record:

  • You can play as a couple or go off independently.
  • On the way to a job you can drive as Jason or swap to Lucia in the passenger seat to use the phone. Working social-media feeds exist.
  • In a chase, the “fluid system” lets you take the wheel or fire from the passenger side.
  • Food affects weight; exercise builds and tones muscle; long stretches without sleep, or multi-day benders, show on the face and body.
  • Nelson: characters “aren’t empty avatars”; “their story becomes a journey you share with them.”
  • Senior VP of narrative Rupert Humphries called it “a Bonnie and Clyde-type narrative.”
  • Humphries on Miami music research (Miami bass through Kodak Black and Sexyy Red) and on needing characters who can move from house parties to high-end South Beach rooms. Boobie’s club is named in that piece as the Jack of Hearts.
  • Game writer Michael Wiafe, character art director Jamie-Lee Lloyd, UI VP Stu Petri, and stylist Jillian Carr talked research, brands, and NPC variety. Carr: “Vice City is built around vanity.” Lloyd: new tools for the most detailed character population they have built. Dazed also reports the team has more than doubled since Red Dead Redemption 2, an LA office focused on pedestrians, and more than 50 street artists on murals in Vice City’s Stockyard (framed as a Wynwood analogue).

GameRant, covering Nelson’s Kinda Funny Games appearance (29–30 August 2026), reported he said no to generative AI in the game they were discussing, and that the single-player would not have microtransactions. Cite as interview reports. The PlayStation product page still carries an “in-game purchases optional” store flag; that flag is not a loot-box table and is not a contradiction you can settle from the internet.

Map size, six stars, and other numbers people want

The Verge, citing the New York Times, reported that Rockstar told the NYT the map is three times the playable map of Red Dead Redemption 2. That figure is not on rockstargames.com. It is not in the Newswire. It is journalist-attributed. Keep it in the unconfirmed-as-spec column. See the map page.

Six stars in a HUD shot is footage. Whether six is the cap, whether it maps to NOOSE-style response the way GTA IV did, and how heat decays, are unconfirmed until Rockstar writes them down.

Digital Foundry called the film perhaps the most impressive real-time rendering showcase they had seen, and described hair, sweat, and crowd density. DF is describing a capture. It is not a fps/resolution table for your Xbox or a PS5 Pro mode list. Notebookcheck reported the official site offered a large uncompressed download of the film and that the capture looked like a 30 fps presentation. “Looked like 30” is a viewer read. Rockstar has not published a frame-rate target.

What not to launder from leaks into this film

The 2022 development leak and the August 2026 leak clips are unauthorized. Rockstar’s reported statement around 26 August 2026 called recent leaks heartbreaking and said spoilers may affect the intended experience. This site does not use leaked footage as a source of facts, and it will not describe it shot-by-shot. If a YouTuber is “confirming” the Extended Look against a leak, they are doing leak archaeology. That is not the same as a Newswire.

Honor meters, “Dead Eye,” property-empire lists, and “you can post to real Instagram” remain unconfirmed. IGN’s Criminal Profile / witness reporting is the closest on-the-record adjacent system, and even that is preview language.

How this film sits next to the other two

Trailer 1 (December 2023) sold a year and a tone. Trailer 2 (May 2025) sold a plot paragraph and named Jason and Lucia. The Extended Look sells a world you can walk around in, still without a manual.

If you want the November campaign intact, skip it. Twenty-six minutes is long enough to show job shapes, the couple under pressure, and Leonida in daylight and at night. If you do watch it, watch Rockstar’s upload, not a commentary re-upload that treats pause-frames as patch notes.

The people in it have bios on Only in Leonida: Jason and Lucia, plus the supporting cast. The commercial offer those videos point at is still pre-order / editions.
