Poster illustration for GTA 6 PS5 vs PS5 Pro — what's known
Original artwork made for this page. Not a screenshot, and not a Rockstar image.
Pre-release. Based on official materials from Rockstar Games (trailers and rockstargames.com/VI). This page will be updated after Grand Theft Auto VI launches on November 19, 2026. Anything not named by Rockstar is either omitted or marked as unverified.

Grand Theft Auto VI is listed for PlayStation 5 and PS5 Pro. The PlayStation product page at playstation.com/en-us/games/grand-theft-auto-vi shows the PS5 Pro Enhanced badge, DualSense vibration and trigger effects, Tempest 3D Audio, near-instant loads off the PS5 SSD, Remote Play, 1 player, offline play enabled, and in-game purchases optional. Rockstar’s own site still uses the tagline “Plays Best On PlayStation 5.” An Extended Look was “captured entirely from in-game footage on PlayStation 5” (27 August 2026 Newswire) — not “PS5 Pro only.”

That is the confirmed hardware story. Frame-rate targets, resolution targets, ray tracing modes, PSSR, and a Pro-versus-base comparison table have not been published by Rockstar or Sony. If a video tells you VI is “4K 60 on Pro,” it is guessing.

Xbox Series X|S remains a full listed platform on rockstargames.com/VI. “Plays Best On” is not an exclusive. Launch: 19 November 2026. Broader platform context: platforms.

What the store page actually prints

PlayStation’s US listing, checked 1 September 2026:

1 playerOne playerCo-op, split-screen. See co-op
Offline play enabledYou can play without going online (browser wording)Console PS Store has also shown “offline play only” in reports; treat the pair as single-player classification, not a DRM essay

PlayStation’s FAQ on the same page: the game is released for PS5 and PS5 Pro on 19 November 2026; it is not playable on PlayStation 4; it is “a single-player experience”; age ratings “at the time of writing” are unconfirmed, with GTA V cited as M / PEGI 18 precedent.

Sony’s June 2026 marketing line, quoted in coverage of the pre-order window: thanks to the partnership with Rockstar, VI will “play best on PS5” by taking advantage of DualSense, 3D audio, and the SSD for a “deeply engaging single-player experience.” That sentence names base PS5 features. It does not name Pro.

What “PS5 Pro Enhanced” means in Sony’s program, not in this game

Sony’s Enhanced badge, on other games, has meant some mix of extra resolution, extra frame-rate, extra ray tracing, or PSSR upscaling. Which mix VI uses is unknown. Resident Evil and other 2025–2026 Enhanced titles are not a VI spec sheet. Do not copy their mode names onto Rockstar’s store page.

PSSR, 8K, 120 Hz, and “locked 60” are unconfirmed for this title. Notebookcheck reported that the official Extended Look download looked like a 30 fps presentation. “Looked like 30” is a viewer read of a film. Digital Foundry called the capture perhaps the most impressive real-time rendering showcase they had seen. DF is describing a capture. It is not a fps table for your living room.

Rockstar Support’s platforms article (18 August 2026) tells you you can pre-order for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. It does not mention Pro.

Base PS5 features Sony did name

These are on PlayStation’s VI page, so they are citable:

  • Tempest 3D Audio — “Leonida’s distinct soundscape,” “highly accurate audio positioning.”
  • Fast loading — PS5 SSD, “near-instant load times” in the “expansive world of Leonida.” Xbox also uses fast SSDs. The sentence is Sony feature copy, not a proof that Xbox loads slower.
  • Haptic feedback — vibrations that “react to your choices and simulate environmental factors all across the sprawling state of Leonida and modern-day Vice City.”
  • Adaptive triggers — “dynamic resistance throughout the game.” No per-action list.
  • Integrated speaker — extra dimension for “featured occurrences and interactions.”

None of those require a Pro. A base PS5 disc-less launch SKU is the product being sold. Pro is a badge on the same listing.

The game is not playable on PS4. That FAQ line is the one last-gen owners need.

Xbox is still in the room

Take-Two’s Q1 FY2027 lineup (7 August 2026) lists PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. Series S is not split out. There is no published S-cut, no published Series X fps, and no published “Pro beats Series X by N percent.” Buy the pad and ecosystem you already use unless you have a DualSense-specific reason. DualSense features are named. They are not a review score.

Cross-play between PS5 and Xbox is unpublished. See cross-play. File size is unpublished. See system requirements — which exist as a vacuum because there is no PC SKU.

Do you need a Pro for GTA 6?

Unknown, and nobody who is honest can score it yet.

What you can say:

  1. The game is sold for base PS5. Sony is marketing DualSense and SSD, not “Pro required.”
  2. The Enhanced badge means Sony expects some Pro-side improvement. History says that is usually image quality, performance, or both.
  3. An $899 extra console (US Pro street talk at the time of the badge) is a hardware decision, not a VI feature list.
  4. The Extended Look was captured on PlayStation 5, not labelled Pro. Capture hardware is a film credit.

If you already own a Pro, you will get whatever Enhanced turns out to be. If you own a base PS5, you are inside the listed spec. If you own neither, “buy a Pro for GTA 6” is a $900 guess.

FAQ

Is GTA 6 PS5 Pro Enhanced?

Yes, as a PlayStation Store badge. The improvements are unpublished.

Is it a PS5 Pro exclusive?

No. Base PS5 and Xbox Series X|S are listed platforms.

Will it run at 60 fps on Pro?

Unknown. Not published.

Does “Plays Best On PS5” mean Xbox is worse?

It is a Sony-favored tagline Rockstar put on its site. There is no comparison table.

Do I need PS Plus?

PlayStation Lifestyle and the listing treat it as a single-player product; PlayStation’s FAQ calls it a single-player experience. You do not need Plus to play a single-player campaign under Sony’s usual rule. You may still need whatever Sony requires if you redeem the GTA+ month inside GTA V Online.
