Grand Theft Auto VI is listed for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. That is the full public platform list. It is on rockstargames.com/VI, on the Rockstar Store, in Rockstar Support’s platforms article (updated 18 August 2026), and in Take-Two’s Q1 FY2027 product table (7 August 2026).
The release date attached to those consoles is Thursday, 19 November 2026.
What the official pages actually print
The product page names both consoles and adds a marketing line: “Plays Best On PlayStation 5.” That is not a PlayStation exclusive. Xbox Series X|S is on the same page, in the same pre-order module, in the same Support article. “Plays Best On” is a Sony-favored tagline Rockstar chose to put on its own site. It is not a feature list. Rockstar has not published a PS5-versus-Xbox comparison table, a PS5 Pro mode, a frame-rate target, or a resolution target.
Rockstar Support, last updated 18 August 2026, answers the platform question in one sentence: “You can pre-order Grand Theft Auto VI for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.” The rest of that article is editions, code-in-a-box, and pre-load. It does not mention PC, Steam, Epic, or Rockstar Launcher.
Take-Two’s announced FY2027 lineup is the investor version of the same list: GTA VI on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, 19 November 2026 only.
Last-gen hardware is also absent. PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch do not appear on the product page or in Support. Anyone selling you a PS4 copy is not selling you this game.
PC is not on any of those four. There is no PC SKU in the announced lineup. There is no PC price. There is no PC date. There are no system requirements, because requirements describe a product that has been listed. Dedicated PC page: will GTA 6 be on PC.
What “Plays Best On PlayStation 5” does not mean
It does not mean Xbox owners get a lesser story. Jason and Lucia’s campaign is the product being sold on both machines. It does not mean DualSense-only features have been specified. It does not mean 4K/60, ray tracing, or a PS5 Pro patch. None of those words appear on the product page or Support.
It does mean Sony’s hardware is the one Rockstar chose to put in the tagline, and it is the hardware Rockstar used to capture An Extended Look. The 27 August 2026 Newswire says that footage was “captured entirely from in-game footage on PlayStation 5.” That is a capture statement. It is not a spec sheet for Xbox.
If a comparison video tells you the Xbox version will run at a named frame rate, it is guessing. Rockstar has not published one.
Buying on the right box
Pre-orders are live on both platforms. A few platform-specific facts from Support, not from forums:
- Physical copies are code-in-a-box. No disc. Shipping and pickup are expected from 12 November 2026 so the code can start pre-load. Ultimate Edition is digital-only.
- PlayStation download codes are region-tied to the country set on the PlayStation account. Support publishes the groupings (Brazil, LATAM, North America, Korea, Japan, UK, Saudi Arabia & UAE, Rest of Asia, Rest of EMEA and Asia). Buy from a retailer in the country of the account.
- Japan PlayStation codes expire 170 days after issuance, which Support defines as the launch date (19 November 2026), “due to regional regulations.”
- Xbox codes are not region-locked, per the same Support article.
- Pre-load for digital pre-orders begins 12 November 2026 at local midnight.
Cross-play, 120 fps modes, and storage numbers are not in that article. Do not plan a second console purchase around a feature Rockstar has not named. PlayStation’s listing does carry a PS5 Pro Enhanced badge; the actual Pro improvements are unpublished.
