One store, several time zones

A country with more than one timezone still gets one PlayStation Store timestamp. The listing is midnight in that store's primary timezone, not midnight on every local clock inside the country.

United States (en-us) is 2026-11-19T05:00:00Z — midnight US Eastern (UTC−5). The same instant is 21:00 PST on 18 November on the US West Coast (05:00 − 8 hours = 21:00 on the 18th), 22:00 MST on 18 November (05:00 − 7 hours), and 23:00 CST on 18 November (05:00 − 6 hours). Players in Pacific Time unlock on the evening of 18 November local time, not at their own midnight.

Canada (en-ca and fr-ca) uses the same 2026-11-19T05:00:00Z stamp: 00:00 Eastern on the 19th, 21:00 Pacific on the 18th.

Brazil (pt-br) is 2026-11-19T03:00:00Z — midnight in Brasília (UTC−3). Amazon Time (UTC−4) is 23:00 on 18 November (03:00 − 4 hours).

Mexico (es-mx) is 2026-11-19T06:00:00Z — midnight in Mexico City (UTC−6). Baja California (UTC−8) is 22:00 on 18 November (06:00 − 8 hours).

Australia (en-au) is 2026-11-18T13:00:00Z — midnight AEDT (UTC+11). Perth (AWST, UTC+8) is 21:00 on 18 November (13:00 + 8 hours = 21:00 on the 18th). Queensland, which stays on AEST (UTC+10), is 23:00 on 18 November (13:00 + 10 hours).

What Rockstar has actually said about the hour

The 6 November 2025 Newswire that set the current date, "Grand Theft Auto VI is Now Set to Launch November 19, 2026," names a day, not a time. The product page repeats the date and nothing else. Rockstar Support's platform article (updated 18 August 2026) gives a clock time for pre-orders — midnight local on 25 June 2026 — and for pre-load — local midnight on 12 November 2026 — but the 19 November launch entry in the same document still carries no hour.

The hour now sits on the PlayStation Store. Regional concept pages for Grand Theft Auto VI carry a per-region midnight timestamp for 19 November 2026. NME reported that confirmation on 8 September 2026 ("Rockstar Games has confirmed via the PlayStation store that Grand Theft Auto 6 will be going live at midnight local time on November 19"); GTAVice reported the same listings on 7 September 2026. This page re-read those store pages on 14 September 2026; the timestamps in the table are from that check. Rockstar has not posted a Newswire time table.

How GTA V unlocked, in 2013

Grand Theft Auto V shipped 17 September 2013 on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, in the disc era. Retail was the story: more than 1,000 UK stores, including over 300 GAME branches, roughly 270 Asda supermarkets, and 248 Blockbuster locations, opened at midnight local time for walk-in sales (VideoGamer.com, 17 Sep 2013). That is a retail-midnight pattern, store by store, city by city — not a single global digital flip, because digital day-one unlocking at scale was not yet how Rockstar sold its biggest release.

GTA V's later next-gen and PC digital re-releases did not need a comparable midnight event; by then the base game had already been out for well over a year. So GTA V's launch precedent tells you about retail midnight openings, not about a digital storefront unlock hour for a brand-new title. That gap is exactly why 2018 is the more useful comparison for VI.

How Red Dead Redemption 2 unlocked, in 2018

Red Dead Redemption 2 is the closer precedent: a new Rockstar single-player release on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, sold overwhelmingly digitally as well as physically, on 26 October 2018. Reporting at the time (Newsweek, Oct 2018) said the PlayStation 4 digital version unlocked at 12 a.m. EDT on launch day — meaning West Coast players could start at 9 p.m. PDT the evening before, a rolling-by-account-region unlock rather than a strict per-device local clock. Xbox One's West Coast unlock time was described as less certain in the same reporting window, which is itself the point: even a game as major as RDR2 did not have a universally clean, simultaneously documented unlock hour across both platforms in advance. People found out largely by watching countdowns tick over on release night.

That is the actual precedent GTA VI sits behind: a midnight-ish digital unlock tied to platform account region, arrived at gradually and partly through community observation, not a single Rockstar-published global timetable.

PS Store vs Microsoft Store: different unlock mechanics

The two storefronts do not guarantee identical timing even for the same release day, because they handle regional accounts differently.

  • PlayStation Store ties unlock timing to the region set on the PlayStation account. The concept-page releaseDate values checked on 14 September 2026 are midnight local for each store's region — one timestamp per store, not one timestamp per timezone inside that country. That is why the US listing is 05:00 UTC (midnight Eastern) for the whole US store.
  • Microsoft Store / Xbox publishes a general pre-order FAQ (support.xbox.com) describing pre-purchase and pre-download so a title becomes playable "the minute it becomes available in your region," but it does not commit, in that general document, to a universal per-timezone rolling unlock for every title. Xbox store times have not been checked for this table. Individual Xbox listings are where a specific unlock time would appear; this page does not state one.

The table on this page is the PlayStation Store only.

Midnight local versus a global unlock

Two different ideas get flattened into "midnight" in casual conversation, and they produce very different real-world outcomes:

Midnight local (rolling by store region). The game unlocks at 00:00 in each PlayStation Store region's primary timezone. New Zealand is first (11:00 UTC on 18 November). The United Kingdom unlocks at 00:00 UTC on 19 November. The US store unlocks at 05:00 UTC. Mexico, Costa Rica, and Guatemala are last in this check (06:00 UTC on 19 November). That is the pattern the PlayStation Store listings now carry, and it matches Rockstar Support's "midnight local time" wording for pre-orders and pre-load.

Global unlock (single moment). The game unlocks at one fixed UTC instant everywhere. The PlayStation Store timestamps are not that model: they span 11:00 UTC on 18 November through 06:00 UTC on 19 November.

One timestamp per country, not per timezone. A US player in Los Angeles and a US player in New York share the US store's single 05:00 UTC timestamp. That is midnight in New York and 21:00 on 18 November in Los Angeles — not midnight in Los Angeles. See the section above.

Physical retail midnight openings, if Rockstar or retailers organize any, are a separate and much less certain question — VI's physical SKU already ships its code-in-box a week earlier, on 12 November, specifically so the game does not need a disc-day midnight run the way 2013's GTA V did.

What actually changes your personal unlock time

  • Which storefront your account is registered to, since PlayStation ties this to account region. The table is PlayStation Store data.
  • Whether you are buying digital or redeeming a physical code, since the physical code's pre-load already starts a week earlier, on 12 November, and the actual play-unlock is still gated to 19 November regardless of when the code was redeemed.
  • Which PlayStation Store region your account uses, and which timezone you sit in inside that region. A US Pacific account still uses the US store's 05:00 UTC timestamp, so the wall clock is 21:00 on 18 November, not local midnight.
  • Any storefront quirk that jumps the gun. Support articles for other titles occasionally unlock early due to a scheduling error on the storefront's end; that is a storefront leak, not a Rockstar policy, and it is not something to plan around.

For the money and prep side of launch day, see the launch checklist and pre-order pages. For what the pre-load window on 12 November actually includes, see pre-load and file size.

FAQ

What time does GTA 6 come out on 19 November?

Midnight local time on 19 November 2026 in each PlayStation Store region, per the store concept pages checked on 14 September 2026. New Zealand is first (18 Nov, 11:00 UTC). Mexico, Costa Rica, and Guatemala are last among the dated stores in this check (19 Nov, 06:00 UTC). The table above has the per-country hours. Xbox times have not been checked here.

Will it unlock at midnight in my timezone?

On PlayStation, it unlocks at midnight in the store region's primary timezone, not necessarily at midnight on your clock if your country has several time zones. The US store is midnight Eastern (05:00 UTC): Pacific Time is 21:00 on 18 November.

Did GTA V or RDR2 unlock everywhere at the same moment?

No. GTA V's 2013 event was mainly retail midnight openings city by city. RDR2's 2018 digital unlock was reported as tied to Eastern time in the US, with some platform uncertainty even at the time.

Does PlayStation and Xbox unlock at the same time?

Not guaranteed. This table is the PlayStation Store. Xbox / Microsoft Store times have not been checked here.

Does pre-loading on 12 November mean I can play early?

No. Pre-load lets the files sit on your drive. The game itself stays locked until 19 November unless a storefront makes an unannounced error.

Where will the real answer show up first?

The PlayStation Store listings already carry the time (checked 14 September 2026). A Rockstar Newswire table has not been posted. Xbox product listings have not been checked here.
