Grand Theft Auto VI has had three public windows: 2025, then 26 May 2026, then 19 November 2026. Only the last one is current. Rockstar announced each change on its Newswire. Take-Two repeated the current date on 7 August 2026. This page is the timeline of those posts, not a rumor log.
The live date is Thursday, 19 November 2026, on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Details on that date sit in the release-date explainer.

Window 1: “Coming 2025,” then Fall 2025
Trailer 1 was the first time a mass audience saw VI. The end card said 2025. That is a year, not a month. Take-Two later put Fall 2025 into investor-facing materials. Fall 2025, in calendar terms, was September–November 2025. The game did not ship then.
A year-out trailer with a year-only date is how this company has worked before. It is also how a search index fills with pages that never update. If you are still seeing “GTA 6 2025” in September 2026, you are looking at Trailer 1’s end card surviving in a thumbnail.
Window 2: 26 May 2026
On 2 May 2025 Rockstar published the first calendar day: 26 May 2026. Four days later, Trailer 2 went out with the plot paragraph and named leads. For six months, May 26 was the date on the site.
May 26 2026 was a Tuesday. It did not happen. On 6 November 2025 — still six months before that Tuesday — Rockstar killed it.
This is the delay most people mean when they type “GTA 6 delayed” in 2026. The 2025 miss was a year-window slipping. The May miss was a printed day slipping.
Window 3: 19 November 2026 (current)
The 6 November 2025 Newswire is still the governing post. The polish sentence is the only official reason: extra months “to finish the game with the level of polish you have come to expect and deserve.” There is no public bug-count, no recut-story admission, no “we fired the online team” memo. Fill-in-the-blank explanations (leaks, engine, staffing, Take-Two’s fiscal calendar) are commentary.
Take-Two’s fiscal year 2027, for the company’s reporting, runs 1 April 2026 to 31 March 2027. A 19 November 2026 launch sits inside that year. A 26 May 2026 launch would have sat in FY2027 as well (FY2027 starts April 2026), so the second delay is not “they moved it a fiscal year.” It is “they moved it six months inside the same fiscal year.” Analysts who talk as if November was chosen to juice a different year are looking at the wrong columns.
On 7 August 2026 Zelnick used “high degree of confidence around the November 19 release.” Pre-orders, which had been live since 25 June, had an “exceptional start”; he would not quantify them. Confidence is not a lock. It is the strongest public language the company has used on this date.
What was not an official delay
The 2022 leak. Development footage circulated without Rockstar’s consent. The 4 February 2022 Newswire had already said a new GTA was in development. A leak is not a ship window.
August 2026 leak clips. Unauthorized. Rockstar’s reported statement called recent leaks heartbreaking. They did not come with a new date.
Retailer listing glitches. Stores put placeholder dates in databases constantly. A Best Buy or Amazon row is not Newswire.
“It’s going to 2027” posts after Extended Look. The Extended Look is a marketing film released into the current window. It is not a delay announcement. Rockstar would not need 26 minutes of PS5 footage in August if it were quietly slipping the SKU a year; it also could still slip the SKU a year. Footage and calendars are different instruments.
PC not being at launch. That is a platform decision, announced by omission, not a delay of a PC SKU that was promised. See platforms.
How to read the next three months
From 1 September to 19 November 2026 the query “GTA 6 delayed” will spike every time a leaker posts a screenshot. The test is simple:
- Is there a Newswire post whose headline is a new date?
- Did rockstargames.com/VI change the “Coming …” line?
- Did Take-Two change the lineup table?
If none of those three moved, the date is still 19 November 2026. YouTube confidence is not a fourth test.
If Rockstar does move it again, they have a format: a short Newswire, a reason sentence, a new day. They have done it twice. They can do it a third time. Planning a midnight launch party without a backup weekend is how people get hurt by a company that has already slipped twice.
Delays and the videos
Trailer 1 sold 2025. Trailer 2 sold a game that was then dated May 2026. The Extended Look sells November 2026. Watch the latest post if you care about the date on the end card. Watch Trailer 1 if you care about first images. Do not use end cards as a calendar.
The January 2026 "third delay" story that moved Take-Two's share price is unpicked in leaks — what held up.
FAQ
How many times has GTA 6 been delayed?
Two official moves of the public window: 2025 → 26 May 2026, then → 19 November 2026.
What is the current date?
19 November 2026.
Why was it delayed?
The November 2025 Newswire: extra months “to finish the game with the level of polish you have come to expect and deserve.” No further official reason.
Is it delayed to 2027?
Not by any Newswire, product page, or Take-Two lineup as of 1 September 2026.
Is PC “delayed”?
PC was never listed. Absence is not a delay of a promised SKU. GTA 6 on PC.
Can a leak delay it again?
Only Rockstar / Take-Two can move the date. A leak is not a ship window.
What we still don't know
- Whether 19 November 2026 holds. Zelnick’s August wording is the optimistic read. Two prior slips are the pessimistic one.
- The internal reason for the May-to-November move, beyond “polish.”
- Whether a further slip would stay inside FY2027 (before 31 March 2027) or break into FY2028.
- A PC window, which cannot be “delayed” until it is announced.
- Exact launch hour, which is a different missing spec.
