Grand Theft Auto VI’s named protagonists are Jason Duval and Lucia Caminos. That pairing is on rockstargames.com/VI, in the Trailer 2 Newswire (6 May 2025), and throughout the Only in Leonida pages. The official plot sentence puts them together after “an easy score goes wrong,” inside a criminal conspiracy that stretches across the state of Leonida.
Rockstar has not published a mission list, a romance meter, or a rulebook for character switching. Voice-actor names circulating online are unofficial, except Stephen Root, who on 14 September 2026 confirmed he plays Brian Heder (GameRant). Dan Houser left Rockstar in 2020 and told IGN in 2025 he did not write this game; do not treat a wiki credits page as a Rockstar document.
The official plot paragraph
From the product page, unchanged as of 1 September 2026:
Vice City, USA. Jason and Lucia have always known the deck is stacked against them. But when an easy score goes wrong, they find themselves on the darkest side of the sunniest place in America, in the middle of a criminal conspiracy stretching across the state of Leonida — forced to rely on each other more than ever if they want to make it out alive.
That is the whole public story. “Easy score goes wrong” is the hook. “Forced to rely on each other” is the relationship. Everything else — heist structure, betrayal order, who dies — is inference from trailers, which are montages, not cutscenes with credits.
Jason Duval
Only in Leonida, in Rockstar’s words:
Jason wants an easy life, but things just keep getting harder. He grew up around grifters and crooks. After a stint in the Army trying to shake off his troubled teens, he found himself in the Keys doing what he knows best, working for local drug runners. “It might be time to try something new.”
Meeting Lucia “could be the best or worst thing to ever happen to him. Jason knows how he’d like it to turn out but right now, it’s hard to tell.”
Lines the page puts in his mouth: “If anything happens, I’m right behind you.” And: “Another day in paradise, right?”
He is the Keys-side of the pair: Army past, drug-runner present, tied to Brian Heder’s operation, friends with Cal Hampton. Ultimate Edition names “Jason’s Safehouse Vehicles” as a bonus. That names a safehouse in the marketing list. It does not describe the property.
Lucia Caminos
Only in Leonida, in Rockstar’s words:
Lucia’s father taught her to fight as soon as she could walk. Life has been coming at her swinging ever since. Fighting for her family landed her in the Leonida Penitentiary. Sheer luck got her out. “Lucia’s learned her lesson — only smart moves from here.”
More than anything, she wants the good life her mom dreamed of since their days in Liberty City — “but instead of half-baked fantasies, Lucia is prepared to take matters into her own hands.” Fresh out of prison, “committed to her plan — no matter what it takes.” “A life with Jason could be her way out.”
A line the page gives her: “The only thing that matters is who you know and what you got.”
She is the first woman to be billed as a lead protagonist in a mainline Grand Theft Auto. That is a series fact, not a Rockstar slogan. Rockstar’s own copy does not make a speech about it. It writes a specific person: prison, a mother in Liberty City, a plan, a man who might be an exit.
Named supporting cast
These people are on the same official pages. They are not a complete credits list. They are the ones Rockstar chose to introduce before launch.
Cal Hampton. Tagline: “What if everything on the internet was true?” Jason’s friend and a fellow associate of Brian’s. He “feels safest hanging at home, snooping on Coast Guard comms with a few beers and some private browser tabs open.” “Casual paranoia loves company, but his friend Jason has bigger plans.”
Boobie Ike. A Vice City figure with real estate, a strip club, and a recording studio. “Boobie’s all smiles until it’s time to talk business.” Partnership with Dre'Quan on Only Raw Records is “what he’s most invested in — now they just need a hit.” Line: “The club money pay for the studio, and the drug money pay for it all.”
Dre'Quan Priest. “Always more of a hustler than a gangster.” Breaking into music was the goal; he has signed Real Dimez. “Dre'Quan’s days of booking acts into Boobie’s strip club might be numbered as he sets his sights on the Vice City scene.”
Real Dimez. Bae-Luxe and Roxy, friends since high school. The page says they turned shaking down local dealers into cash “via spicy rap tracks and a relentless social media presence.” An early hit with local rapper DWNPLY, then “five years and a whole lot of trouble,” now signed to Only Raw Records.
Raul Bautista. “A seasoned bank robber always on the hunt for talent ready to take the risks that bring the biggest rewards.” “Sooner or later, his crew will have to double down or pull their chips from the table.”
Brian Heder. “A classic drug runner from the golden age of smuggling in the Keys.” Still moving product through his boat yard with his third wife, Lori. Jason lives rent-free at one of Brian’s properties “so long as he helps with local shakedowns, and stops by for Lori’s sangria once in a while.” The page’s gloss: “Looks like a Leonida beach bum — moves like a great white shark.”
That is the official circle: a Keys smuggling house, a Vice City music/club operation, a professional robber hunting talent, and a paranoid friend on the radio. How missions assign them is not public.
Dual protagonists, as far as interviews go
Rockstar’s marketing is a couple. How you play that couple is thinner.
Art director Rob Nelson told Dazed (August 2026) that you can play as a couple or solo, that phones get used on the way to a job, and that exercise, food, sleep, and benders show on the body. Those are on-the-record interview remarks. They are not a store-page control scheme. They do not tell you whether switching is GTA V-style (three characters, mid-mission swaps) or a different structure.
Outlets reading the Extended Look reported character switching in the footage. A montage can cut from Jason to Lucia without proving a button exists. Until Rockstar writes the mechanic down, “you can swap on a sixpence like GTA V” stays unconfirmed.
Fan claims of honor meters, “Dead Eye,” or a relationship-stat UI are also unconfirmed. Do not take a pause-menu mockup from a leak as UI.
What this is not
It is not a GTA V trio. Michael, Franklin, and Trevor are not a template Rockstar has applied on the record. The longer sequel comparison is GTA 6 vs GTA 5.
It is not Bonnie and Clyde as a licensed story. The copy is crime and dependency in a sunshine state. Comparisons to film couples are fine as criticism. They are not sourcing.
It is not a confirmed voice cast. Names such as Gregory Connors and Ana Esposito have circulated. They are unofficial. Wait for a Rockstar credits page or an actor’s own confirmation. The one actor confirmation so far is Stephen Root as Brian Heder, in an AP News interview on 14 September 2026.
It is not a Dan Houser game in the sense fans still want. He has said he did not write it. Wikipedia writer lists for an unreleased game are not a primary source.
Supporting bios in full: named cast. Two-player wishes: co-op. Story length: campaign length.

What we still don't know
- Who you control first, and whether the campaign forces stretches as one character.
- Switching rules, co-op, or split-screen. Nelson’s “couple-or-solo” line is the closest thing on tape. It is not a feature list.
- How much of the story is the Vice City music plot versus the Keys smuggling plot versus Raul’s robberies.
- Whether Lucia’s penitentiary time is playable, a prologue, or backstory.
- Voice cast beyond Stephen Root’s own confirmation, motion-capture credits, and a writer’s list from Rockstar.
- How Ultimate’s “threaded across all aspects of Jason and Lucia’s story” items attach to these people. See pre-order / editions.
