Poster illustration for How long is GTA 6? Still unknown
Original artwork made for this page. Not a screenshot, and not a Rockstar image.
Pre-release. Based on official materials from Rockstar Games (trailers and rockstargames.com/VI). This page will be updated after Grand Theft Auto VI launches on November 19, 2026. Anything not named by Rockstar is either omitted or marked as unverified.

Rockstar has not published a campaign length for Grand Theft Auto VI. There is no “X hours of story” on rockstargames.com/VI, on Support, or in Take-Two’s pre-order materials. An Extended Look is about 26 minutes of in-game PlayStation 5 footage (Netflix / press). That is a marketing film, not a completion time. HowLongToBeat rows you see in September 2026 are placeholders, guesses, or GTA V leftovers with the logo swapped.

If you searched “how long is GTA 6,” the honest answer is unknown. The rest of this page is what people use instead of an unknown, and why most of it is the wrong instrument.

The story still launches 19 November 2026 on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. It is sold as a single-player experience about Jason Duval and Lucia Caminos.

Ultimate’s “threaded across all aspects of Jason and Lucia’s story, with new items uncovered behind each chapter” (Support, 18 August 2026; editions page) is the closest official hint that the campaign is chaptered. It does not say how many chapters, or how long a chapter is. See editions.

What the official plot actually covers

The whole public story, still on the product page:

Vice City, USA. Jason and Lucia have always known the deck is stacked against them. But when an easy score goes wrong, they find themselves on the darkest side of the sunniest place in America, in the middle of a criminal conspiracy stretching across the state of Leonida — forced to rely on each other more than ever if they want to make it out alive.

That sentence contains a hook, a geography claim (the conspiracy spans Leonida), and a relationship. It does not contain a mission count.

Named supporting people imply more than one strand — Keys smuggling (Brian, Cal, Jason), Vice City music/club (Boobie, Dre'Quan, Real Dimez), professional scores (Raul) — plus Lucia’s prison-to-plan arc. Whether the campaign braids those, and in what order, is unpublished. A braided state-sized story sounds long. Sounding long is not a HowLongToBeat number.

Rob Nelson told Dazed you can play as a couple or independently, use the phone on the way to a job, and that food, sleep, and benders show on the body. That is a systems conversation. Systems add hours if you engage them. They also add hours if you ignore the story. Neither is a main-mission clock.

GTA V is a terrible stopwatch for this

Grand Theft Auto V’s 2013 story is often quoted in the mid-teens of hours for a straight shot, with a much larger number if you chase everything, and a theoretically infinite number if you never leave GTA Online. Those figures describe a finished 2013 game with a wiki.

VI is not V. Different map, dual leads instead of a trio, no VI Online in the launch copy, thirteen years of production culture later. Using V’s main-story hours as VI’s estimate is how you get a confident wrong number. The longer sequel comparison is GTA 6 vs GTA 5.

Red Dead Redemption 2 is the other wrong stopwatch: a long, slow Rockstar campaign people remember as “the last one.” VI is a GTA. Pace will be a review-week argument. It is not a spec.

Map-size comments attributed after the Extended Look (“3× RDR2” via NYT as reported by The Verge) are not a play-time formula. Bigger maps do not automatically mean longer stories. They can mean longer drives between the same number of missions. Unconfirmed as spec anyway.

100% and “completionist” clocks

Rockstar has not published a 100% checklist. Hobbyist lists compiled from trailers — every activity in the Extended Look treated as a collectible — are fan documentation. Kayaks, gyms, fan boats, basketball, racing: shown or reported as shown. Not a completion grid.

Property empires, hunting lists, and Online-style businesses are GTA Online habits projected onto a single-player map. Unconfirmed.

If you are planning sick days in November, plan for a long single-player Rockstar game in the cultural sense: more than a weekend if you care, possibly much more if you wander. Then wait for review clocks. Do not schedule a flight home around a fake 31.5-hour average.

Leaks are not a chapter select

The 2022 development leak and August 2026 leak clips are unauthorized. Rockstar called recent leaks heartbreaking and said spoilers may affect the intended experience (statement reported 26 August 2026). Mission-count spreadsheets built from those materials are not a source on this site. They are also how people spoil themselves six years early and still get the count wrong.

FAQ

How long is GTA 6’s story?

Unpublished.

Is the Extended Look a sixth of the game?

No. It is a montage. Do not divide 26 minutes into a campaign.

Will it be longer than GTA 5?

Unknown. Different game.

Can I finish it before going back to work on Monday?

Unknown. Do not bet a job on a fake clock.

Does Ultimate add story hours?

Copy says extras and “action” threaded through chapters, some shops only open with Ultimate. Not an hour count.
